DropAsecret vs NGL: anonymous messages you can talk back to, even out loud

On NGL, you answer an anonymous message on your story. On DropAsecret, it's the start of a private chat, in text or voice notes, and nobody can pay to find out who you are. Here's how the two compare.

If you've used anonymous messages before, it was probably on NGL. You share your link, people send you messages, and you answer by posting them to your story, for everyone to see.

DropAsecret is built for what comes after the first message. A message is the start of a private conversation: you reply, they reply, and it goes back and forth for as long as you both like, while the sender stays anonymous. And it doesn't have to be typed.

How DropAsecret and NGL compare

Here's how they compare as we write this, in October 2026:

  • Answering. On NGL, you answer a message by sharing it to your story. On DropAsecret, you reply privately in a chat, and the sender can reply back, as many times as you both like.
  • Finding out who sent it. NGL Pro, a paid subscription, offers "hints about who sent each message." DropAsecret doesn't sell hints or names. A name only shows if both people agree to a reveal, and nobody can pay to see it.
  • Voice. On DropAsecret, any message can be a voice note, with masks that change your voice on your own phone before it's sent. NGL's listing doesn't mention voice messages.
  • Sharing. Both let you post messages to your story. DropAsecret can also turn a voice note into a video for your WhatsApp Status, and put your reply on the card under the message.
  • The basics are free. On DropAsecret, messages, replies, blocking and reporting are free on every plan.

Reply, and they can reply back

When a message arrives in your inbox, you can answer it right there. Your reply goes to the person who sent it, not to your followers.

On their side, after sending, they get a button to see replies in their chats. If you answer while they're still on that page, it tells them straight away: "They replied!" From then on, the conversation lives in their Chats, where they can read your reply and write back.

They don't need an account for any of this. Without one, their chats stay on the browser they sent from. With a free account, their chats are saved to it and follow them to any phone. They can also copy a private link that reopens the chat on another device. Anyone with that link can read and reply as them, so it's one to keep private.

There's no cap on messages or replies, on any plan.

Or say it out loud

Any message in the chat can be a voice note instead of text. The sender can start with one, you can reply with one, and they can answer with one.

Before sending, you choose how you sound. My voice is your own. High, Deep and Robot are free for everyone and change your voice so it's harder to recognise. Plus adds more, like Chipmunk, Helium and Giant. The mask is applied on your own phone before anything is sent, so your real voice never leaves it.

A voice note can be up to 30 seconds, or 60 on Plus. The free plan includes 3 voice notes a week, and Plus has no limit. We wrote more about how voice masks work.

Share the best ones to WhatsApp

Got a voice note you want your friends to hear? Open it and tap Share. DropAsecret turns it into a short vertical video, with a waveform that fills in as the voice plays, ready for WhatsApp Status or Instagram Stories. Those apps take videos but not audio files, which is why it's a video.

It opens your phone's share menu, so you can pick WhatsApp and post it in a couple of taps, or download the video instead. The video shows the prompt and the voice, and nothing about who sent it. Your link goes in the caption, so friends can send you one of their own, unless you'd rather hide it.

Text messages can go to your Status too, as a story-sized card. You can put your reply on the card under the message, so your friends see the question and your answer together, and you can cover any letters you'd rather not show. We wrote about share cards in more detail.

Names only if you both say yes

However long the chat runs, the sender stays anonymous. You see a nickname, never their name, number or email. If you both want to know who's on the other side, either of you can ask for a reveal, and a name only shows when both of you say yes. Here's how that works.

Try it

Make your free link at dropasecret.com, then share it from the app with one tap to WhatsApp. When the first message comes in, reply to it, in text or out loud.
